The outbreak of the respiratory disease known as coronavirus (COVID-19), which originated in China, has now been detected in dozens of countries worldwide, including the United States.
While there is currently no vaccine available, the CDC suggests many best practices to avoid the spread of the disease:
Do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth
When sick, stay at home
Avoid contact with those who are sick
When coughing or sneezing, use a tissue (or the crook of your elbow)
Wash your hands with soap and water, for at least 20 seconds, regularly
Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces

What are the symptoms of COVID-19?
The symptoms of COVID-19 are similar to other respiratory illnesses, such as the common cold and flu. The most common of these symptoms include:
Fever
Cough
Shortness of breath
According to the CDC, symptoms can range from mild to severe, and even life-threatening.
How does the coronavirus spread?
This virus was first detected in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China. The first infections were linked to a live animal market, but the virus is now spreading from person-to-person. It’s important to note that person-to-person spread can happen in a variety of ways. Some viruses are highly contagious (like measles), while other viruses are less so.
The virus that causes COVID-19 seems to be spreading easily and sustainably in the community (“community spread”) in some affected geographic areas. Community spread means people have been infected with the virus in an area, including some who are not sure how or where they became infected.
