Welcome House of Time

Please join us in welcoming Jim Michaels owner of House of Time.  Jim opened House of Time in downtown Gettysburg and after 22 years decided to move his business to Waynesboro.

Jim is a master watch and clockmaker who grew up fascinated with clocks and watches.  At the age of 12, he and his dad drove all over to find someone to fix his grandfathers pocket watch.  When they couldn’t find anyone, his dad gave it to him to play with.  Fast forward several years and Jim is in Switzerland studying with the Watch Makers of Switzerland Technical and Education Program.  He tore his grandfather’s watch apart, fixed it and brought it back to his dad as a Christmas gift.

Jim has led an exciting life in the industry and is considered an expert.  He has worked on countless clocks and watches for his thousands of clients around the world. He has collaborated with the Director of the Smithsonian to work on museum clocks, worked on clocks in the White House and was part of an exhibit that gave him the opportunity to work on half of the presidents’ watches.  He took apart Washington’s watch and was able to tell them what was original and what had been replaced.  He also found and restored the first Breguet watch ever made.  It took him 10 years and now can be found in a museum in Switzerland.

House of Time is located at 1507 East Main St. (next to Tractor Supply).  In addition to Jim, you will find his daughter, Kathleen Grove and her husband Jeff Grove working beside him eager to learn the trade of the business.  House of Time is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10-6 pm.  They service anything from antique clocks and watches to replacing watch batteries.  Be sure to stop in and welcome them to the community.  A tour around their showroom is a must.  It is filled with antique watches, clocks, and other unique items.  You can reach House of Time at 717-398-0799, jim@watchermaker.net or visit their website at watchmaker.net
